William J. Zatkalik

William "Bill" J. Zatkalik, age 81, of Park Forest. Beloved husband of the late Carol [nee Christensen] Zatkalik and the late Patricia [nee McKillican] Zatkalik. Loving father of Eric [Deborah] Zatkalik, Kimberly Zatkalik, and Christina [late James] McDonald, and stepfather to Jill [David] Frier, the late Patty [James] Burdett, and Suzanne [Clark] Pontius. Dearest grandfather of Abigail, Emma, and Leah Zatkalik and step-grandfather of Elisabeth Szakacs, Jason Ely, the late Robert Attwood, and Zebulon, Joshua, and Samuel Pontius. Brother of Matthew and the late Barry Zatkalik. Uncle and beloved friend of many. He served his country during wartime as a US Army MP.

Bill was a doting family man, especially in his later years to his granddaughters and many "bonus" grandchildren. His compassion and empathy was evidenced through his many years of community service, as well as his ability to always see the best in people and practice active forgiveness. He was also a proud man of faith, having taught Sunday School for Salem Lutheran in the 80s and was an active member of the choir at Prince of Peace. He loved animals and raised several dogs and cats throughout his lifetime. His silliness, joy, and enthusiasm will be sorely missed by all that had the pleasure to know him.

Visitation and Funeral Service Saturday January 3, 2026. Mr. Zatkalik will lie-in-state on Saturday from 10am until the time of Funeral Service at 11am at the Salem Lutheran Church 18324 Ashland Ave in Homewood.
