The family of William "Bill" Martin Sandstrom, 78, of Glenwood, announces his passing on May
6th, 2025.
Bill was born on August 30th, 1946 in Chicago, IL to the late Dagmar (nee Fuglsang) and Nils
Simon. He is preceded in death by his siblings Elsie Garner (Theodore), Carl Herbert, Donald
(Mary) and Nils Frederick (Constance) and his adoring niece, Susan Barkowski (nee Garner)
(Donald).
Bill will be remembered as a loving husband by his wife of 55 years, Gail Mary (Witek), a devoted father to
Erika Joy, Amanda Hope, and JoAnna Faith (David) Braker. He is fondly remembered as the
funny "Grumpa" to William Simon, Joseph Aleksander, Pamela Susan, and David Bruce. He will
be missed and remembered by numerous family members, friends and colleagues.
Bill enjoyed a good Green River soda, while listening to old radio classics and music from the 1940s and 1950s.
His favorite singers included Patsy Cline and Hank WIlliams.
As a teenager, he participated in drag racing, and in his later years, he enjoyed watching various types of car races including, dragsters and Nascar.
One of his favorite TV shows from the 1950s and 1960s was the detective lawyer, Perry Mason, but also enjoyed watching science fiction programs such as the Star Trek series.
A Celebration of Life is being held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Glenwood, IL on May 24th at
11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Andrews Lutheran Church.
