William (Bill) Dietrich Maier

Bill was born in 1935 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, and passed on November 29th from COVID related complications. He lived his entire life in the South Suburban area of Chicago. Bill graduated from Bloom Highschool in 1953. He received his Sheet Metal Worker Mechanic's card from Washburn Trade School in Chicago. Bill also attended Purdue University and Michigan State University where he studied building construction.  Bill was happily married to his wife, Joy, for 63 years. Together they have four children, three boys and one girl. His children: Lory (husband John), Todd, Chris (wife Julie), and Peter (wife Cathy) have eight children and step children among them - Katie, Emily, Michelle, Nichole, and John, Darrah, Elle, and Emma. Bill also has five great grandchildren who he adored - Hunter, Knox, Leo, Michael, and Mathew.  Bill was the proud and dedicated owner of the John Maier Company in Chicago Heights, Illinois that was established by his Grandfather in 1902. He began working part time for the company when he was 12 years old. Bill and his partner at the time, Robert Heinz, purchased the business in 1975 and grew it into a successful full-service industrial sheet metal contracting business.  Bill was committed to supporting the community with activities that included: Board of Directors member of the Congregational Church of Steger, School board member for the Steger school district, President of the Steger Kiwanis Club, Board of Directors member of the Chicago Heights Chamber of Commerce, member of the Small Business Council of the Southeast Chicago Chamber of Commerce where he chaired numerous committees. Bill was also very active in the Flossmoor Country Club on the Board of Directors where he chaired various committees over his five year tenure on the board.  Bill was also a long time member, active Elder and loyal Trustee of First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Heights.  A limited funeral service for direct family members will be held on Friday, December 4th at Ryan-Tews Funeral Home in Homewood, Illinois.
