Susan Austin

Susan S. Austin (nee Stewart), age 86, of Orland Park, IL and longtime resident of Flossmoor, IL was born August 13th, 1935 in Hammond, IN to the late Kenneth and Grace (Gliddan) Stewart. Cherished sister of the late Douglas Stewart. Beloved wife of 67 years to the Honorable Richard William Austin, and loving mother to Mark (Monique), Bryan (Kathy), Doug, and Tom (Beth). Dear grandmother to Missy (Karl), Chris (Annette), Bryan Jr., Will (Jen), Aly (Billy), Katie (Jake), James, and Meg. Great grandmother to Cole, Harrison, and Gavin. Sister-in-law to David (Mary), Bob (late Lois). Loved by many nieces, nephews.

She graduated from Thornton High School in 1953, and attended the University of Colorado. Suzi, as her friends called her, never met a stranger. She loved a gathering and entertaining family and friends. Suzi was kind, quick witted, funny, independent, and deeply caring. She always had a receptive ear and cherished every relationship she made, which were many. She loved her family, friends, traveling, and golf. A long-time member of Olympia Fields Country Club, Suzi was quite the accomplished golfer, collecting her only hole-in-one on the 14th hole of the South course.

Suzi enjoyed giving back through volunteer work for her church and the Homewood-Flossmoor community. She also gave years of service to the Rush University Woman's Board and served as the President from 2000 – 2002. She was a long-time member at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist in Flossmoor, IL and most recently enjoyed attending The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Palos Park, IL.

Her celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 3rd at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist located at 2640 Park Drive in Flossmoor, IL 60422 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Woman's Board of Rush University Medical Center. http://thewomansboard.org/
