Sam J. Costello

Sam J. Costello, Age 69, lifetime resident of Chicago Heights. Husband of Lisa nee Prox. Father of Adam (Gabrielle) Pomeroy, Biggie Papa of Ainsley and Harper. Son of the late Phil and Josephine (Pena DiGiovanni) Costello. Brother of Roslyn Costello, the late Frank E. (Jo Ann) Costello and Angie (Chris) Rizzi.

Uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Friend to many. Sam's loyalty to his family always came first! Especially in keeping up with passed down family traditions like canning tomatoes, Sunday family dinners and celebrating our annual St. Joseph's Day Table.  Sam also enjoyed a quick trip to the local casino, fishing with lifelong friends and watching the Angels beat the White Sox!

Outside of his longstanding position (24+ years) as Supervisor of Drivers Services at the Chicago Heights DMV, Sam dedicated a good portion of his professional life to youth education. Served on the District 170 School Board for 24 years where he was an integral member in helping initiate both the CHECC and STEM programs.  In his final 10yrs, serving as School Board President, his main focus was the building and completion of the new Chicago Heights Middle School where he is forever commemorated at the Sam J. Costello Media Center. Memorial and services will be held on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, from 3:00pm until the time of Services at 7:00pm at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 S. Dixie Highway in Homewood, IL 60430. For further information contact 708-798-5300 or www.tews-ryanfh.com.
