Ronald D. Bellinger, age 81, a long-time resident of Homewood, IL, passed away on March 20, 2025. He was born on October 13, 1943, in Galesburg, IL. After living in various places growing up, including California and Kansas, he moved to Chicago as a young man, where he found work, took night classes at Northwestern University and met his future wife of 56 years.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bellinger, nee Maki, his nieces Kimberly (Anthony) Montez of Kansas City, MO, Shari (Blaine) Eads of Bartlesville, OK, 1 grand niece, 3 grand nephews, and his rescue pit bull mix Rayna. He was preceded in death by his father Earl Bellinger, his mother Lucille Odell, his step-father James "Digger" Odell and his sister Niki Fisher.
Ron worked at Amtrak for 30 years before retiring in 2007. He loved talking to people and had been a Ham Radio operator since 1972. He was a long-time member of Landmark Lodge No. 422, AF&AM. He loved animals, dogs in particular. He had a kind heart and volunteered at various charities, including PAWS of Tinley Park, and "Meals on Wheels," where he enjoyed chatting with the folks who were receiving the food.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 26, from 2pm until 7pm at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an animal-related charity of your choice. For further information contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300 .
