Roger A. Bovenkerk, age 86, resident, of Homewood, formerly of Roseland, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Loretta Bovenkerk. Loving father of Lornel (Chuck) Priebe, Sue (Gregg) Slager and Jenny (John) Piotrowski. Grandfather of Stephanie Priebe, Amanda (George) Howe, John Priebe, Kyle Slager, Justin Slager, Emma Piotrowski, Matthew Piotrowski and Nicholas Piotrowski. Great grandfather of Maeve and another great granddaughter on the way! Dear brother of the late Marilyn (late Kenneth) Swanson and uncle of the late Pamela Jacobson, Kendal Swanson and John (Janice) Swanson. Brother-in-law of the late Donald (late Alice) Myers, uncle to Donald (Jean) Myers, John (Lori) Myers and Nancy (Brad) Wilkinson. Best friend, cousin and business partner with the late Alan Bovenkerk. Dear uncle, cousin and friend to many. Graduate of Fenger High School and Bradley University. Former owner of Bovenkerk's Men's Wear in Roseland and Homewood. Roger was the President and member of Homewood Rotary Club and Homewood Chamber of Commerce for many years. Roger was a Vice-President at the Bank of Homewood and former owner of the Aurelios Pizza in Schererville, IN. Former member of Bethany Reformed Church, Faith Church, and current member of First Reformed Church in South Holland. He was an avid fisherman who loved camping. He also enjoyed wintering in Ft. Myers, Florida and watching the Chicago Bears. Visitation will be held at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home - 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood on Saturday December 11, from 1 pm until 4 pm, with a short service immediately following. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Homewood Rotary Foundation, The Glenwood Academy or Camp Manitoqua Center in Frankfort.
