Robert D. Phipps

Robert DeWayne Phipps, age 87, went to his heavenly home on April 12, 2022. Robert was the 9th of 17 children, born July 15, 1934 in Crete, IL to the late George Phipps and Violet (Steen) Haseman. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Phipps. Survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lucille Phipps, and children, George Phipps, Connie (Mickeal) Goodman, Robert (Cathey) Phipps, Jr. and LaVene (Michael) Brooks. Devoted grandfather of 14, great grandfather of 18 and great-great-grandfather of 7.

Robert, fondly known as "Bob" or "PeeWee", loved and cherished his family above anything else and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was also an avid genealogy enthusiast and would talk for hours about the search for his ancestors. Bob was happiest in his shop working on making, building, or fixing something. His motto was "Why buy it when you can make it!". And with the same gumption, he also loved to garden. Afterall, "if you can grow it – why not!".

Robert grew up in the suburbs of South Chicago, IL where he met and married Lucille and raised their family. He worked for 30 years at Keystone Inland Steel in Chicago Heights, IL until he retired in the mid 80's. After which he moved to Kentucky for several years until he and Lucille began their travel journeys finally settling in Texas where he has resided for the last 12 years.

Resting at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home 18230 Dixie Highway Homewood IL, Tuesday, April 19 from 10am until the time of service at 11am at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood, IL.
