Richard Baxter Keys, (92), of Tinley Park, Illinois, passed away on December 18, 2021. He was born to the late William and Bernice Keys on March 22, 1929. He was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, and later grew to adulthood in Harvey, Illinois.
Richard was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Brandt) Keys.
He was a dear father of Karin (Joe) Lezon, Brenda Polite, Marsha (Joe) Rebesco, Richard W. Keys, and Rhonda (Eric) Testroet. He was a fond grandfather of 18, and great-grandfather of 10. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings, including Francis Keys, Erla Keys, Avanell (Keys) Montgomery, Robert Keys, and Donald Keys.
Richard attended the Free Methodist Church for most of his life – first in Harvey, Illinois, and then later in Monee, Illinois. He played an integral part in the financial aspects of the church, using his accounting skills to balance the year-end books and prepare tax documents.
After many years of working in a career in insurance, Richard spent his retirement years enjoying traveling and photography. He traveled extensively to Mexico, the Caribbean, Egypt, Spain, France, England, and Norway, to name a few. He also was known for making quality corn hole toss boards, as well as his delicious home-made French fries.
Richard truly loved spending time with family and friends. He attended many birthday parties, Grandparents Days, graduations, sporting events, band concerts, and award ceremonies for his eighteen grandchildren. He also enjoyed vacationing and spending time with his long-time "lady friend" and companion, Patricia Ricker. The two of them enjoyed many adventures together throughout the last three decades and created wonderful memories.
He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
Resting at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood, IL.
