Richard E Galen

Richard Emil Galen, age 92, of Homewood Illinois, was called to his heavenly home on July 20, 2024.

Beloved husband of the late Joan Galen, father of David Galen [Laura], Daniel Galen, James Galen [Lisa] and Thomas Galen. Cherished grandfather of Mike, Jack, Cory and Maris. Son of late Alma & Bruno Gumalauskis.

Rich was a friend to many and a dedicated husband and father.  He served in the US Navy aboard the battleship USS Iowa.  Rich worked for the Santa Fe Railroad before joining Standard Oil, then stayed with Amoco through retirement. He loved outdoor activities, including fishing, hiking, and hunting with his dogs.  Rich was well-read and a wonderful cook and gardener.  Extensive travel with his family included camping across the US, scuba diving in the Florida Keys, and visits to  Dinosaur National Monument, Cape Hatteras, NC and Chapleau Ontario, Canada.  He will be deeply missed.

Visitation for Richard E. Galen will be held on Tuesday July 30 from 10am until the time of Service at the Salem Lutheran Church in Homewood. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Garden South Cemetery in Oak Lawn, Illinois. For additional information contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.
