Phillip A. DuBrownik, age 76, Long-Time Deacon of St. Emeric Catholic Church and resident of Country Club Hills. Phil was born in Chicago, IL and grew up on Colfax Avenue in the South Chicago Neighborhood, with his father and mother, Felix DuBrownik and Marie DuBrownik (nee Gibasiewicz), and his two sisters, Judith Baker and Ruth Koteles. He graduated from Bowen High School and continued to get his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University.
Phil found his true calling as deacon of St. Emeric Church, where he served for over 20 years. His sister recalls him wanting to be a priest even as a child. He would build himself an altar and "celebrate" Mass. He later found his way back to this through his deaconship. Phil was a man who loved people and loved serving God, his church, and his community, which he did with thoughtfulness, kindness, and a playful sense of humor. He touched many lives—those of his family, including his two nieces and two nephews, and his "extended family" of the St Emeric Community. A man who loved and was well loved, all who knew him are sure he is still remembering us, looking down and interceding on all our be halves. The best way to remember him is by being kind and good to one another—It is what he would want most.
