Peter Nicholson, of Crete, IL, passed away in Homewood on February 6, 2024, after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.
He was the third of eight children and oldest son of Frederick and Patricia Nicholson and grew up in Homewood, IL. He graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 1967 and served in the US Marine Corps from 1969-1971, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. He attended Prairie State College and worked in maintenance engineering and construction at the Flossmoor Country Club and through his own business, Pete's Home Maintenance.
He was better known to many of his friends as a guitarist and vocalist for numerous country-western bands that performed throughout the Chicago area, including Near Beer and Hard Rain.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane (née Andrade), parents Frederick and Patricia, sister Gretchen and brothers Eric and Mark. He is survived by his sisters Kristin (Finley), Lisa, Hillary, brother Gregor, six nieces and nephews, and his significant other, Kathy Carlson.
A celebration of Pete's life will be held later this spring, followed by a ceremony with military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
