Mrs. Peggy Ann Dangerfield (née Rayford) was born on May 15, 1946, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was the second child of Mrs. Essie Green (Rayford) and sister to Lazeter and Cherie Rayford. As a young girl, she moved with her mother and stepfather, Mr. Peter Elihu Green, from Pine Bluff to Chicago, Illinois.
In Chicago, Peggy excelled academically, graduating from John Marshall High School and later earning a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois. Her professional career culminated in over 20 years of dedicated service as a Deputy Sheriff for the Cook County Department of Corrections, where she retired with honor.
Peggy was blessed with two children from her first marriage to Mr. Josephier Brown. Their eldest, Cherie Brown, sadly preceded her in death, while their youngest, Mr. Wayne Issa, continues her legacy.
Later in life, Peggy married the love of her life, Mr. Richard Dangerfield. Together, they shared nearly three decades of marital bliss until Richard was called home by the Lord on September 28, 2023. Peggy and Richard nurtured and raised their children, Cherie Brown, Wayne Issa (Scheree Issa), and Dalia Dangerfield (Shaka Scott), and took great pride in their grandchildren: Tatianna Williams, Diana Williams, Fiana Williams, Cheryll Range, William Range, Asa Issa, Cierra Turks, Joseph Scott, Richard Scott, and Anna Scott.
Peggy was the matriarchal rock of her family—a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Her beautiful spirit and radiant smile embodied strength and wisdom. Peggy was smart, witty, tough, and generous with her love and advice, inspiring everyone around her to be their best selves. She had a strong sense of style and fashion, which was evident in both her dress and her home decor. She loved gardening, winning several neighborhood awards for her well-designed yard. Peggy also enjoyed rehabbing homes, shopping, and solving crossword puzzles. Music and dancing brought her joy, especially when surrounded by her family.
On Monday, August 12, 2024, the Lord called Peggy Dangerfield home to His bosom in Heaven. She is now reunited with her mother, Essie Green; her father, Peter Elihu Green; her brother, Lazeter Rayford; and her beloved husband, Richard Dangerfield. She leaves behind her sisters, Cherie Houston and Juanita Webb; her son, Wayne Issa; her step-daughter, Dalia Dangerfield; her nephew, Brian; her grandchildren, Tatianna, Diana, Fiana, Cheryll, William, Asa, Cierra, Joseph, Richard, and Anna; and her great-grandchildren, Jamaine, Seanna, Stefon, KeSean, Keniya, Shoniya, as well as a multitude of friends.
Peggy will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. We take comfort in knowing that she is now in perfect peace with the Lord.
