Patrick, Packey, Coach, Pop Butler lived life to the fullest during every moment of his 97 years. A true SouthSider, Packey graduated from Mount Carmel High School (1945), and never stopped supporting his Caravan. He continued his studies at the University of Notre Dame (1950), served in the Army 11th Airborne, and finally received a law degree at Northwestern University (1956). Packey loved to brag that during his college years, he never saw his treasured Fighting Irish lose a single game on the gridiron. Packey's love and commitment to his Fighting Irish was only eclipsed by his adoration to his beloved Ann. Married fifty-three years, they were the life of the party, and cleared many dance floors jitterbugging their way through life. Together they raised six successful kids. Packey's commitment to Ann was the definition of "in sickness and health". Packey's love for sports turned him into Coach - you could find him at Flossmoor park hitting line drives, at IJP barking at kids to hustle during wind sprints, or on the slopes enjoying one of the many memorable ski trips. Packey had the gift of gab, and loved to hang with his many friends at Comiskey Park, on the golf course, softball field, tennis court or grabbing a beer at The Fifth Quarter. His example as a dedicated father and husband lead him to become an amazing Pop to fifteen grandkids and three great grandkids. Pop was devoted to his family and loved by many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Packey was the loving husband of the late Anna Mae (née Donohue); Cherished father of Pat (Diane), Mary Ann (Don) Murray, Michael (Kristin), Donna (Conn) Connolly, Thom (Lesley) and Mandy. Loving Pop to Joel, Gable, Heather, Sean, Kellen, Sam, Annie, Jake, Griffin, Max, Liam, Packey, Maggie, Grace and Leo. Great Grand Pop to Mallory, Ethan and Evelyn Mae and Uncle to many. Devoted son of the late Patrick and Luna (nee Lincicome) and big brother to the late Jack. Visitation Sunday, March 2 from 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. Tews-Ryan Funeral Home 18230 S. Dixie Hwy, Homewood, IL 60430 https://www.tews-ryanfh.com/. Funeral Mass, Monday, March 3 at 10:30 A.M. St. Veronica's Parish, Infant Jesus of Prague Church 1131 Douglas Ave, Flossmoor, IL 60422.
