Pamela May Wheeler, peacefully concluded her earthly journey on September 9, 2024, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, Illinois. Born on June 29, 1946, in Racine, Wisconsin, Pamela's 78 years were marked by a dedication to family, a passion for animals, and a spirit that touched countless lives.
Pamela's legacy lives on through her surviving children: Nathan Bradley Olson (wife Susan) and Daniel Ryan Olson (wife Margaret). Her love extends to her cherished granddaughters, Maya and Amelia Olson, who were the apples of her eye. Pamela's heart also held a special place for her late son, Matthew Paul Olson, who preceded her in death in 2010.
A 1964 graduate of Eau Claire Memorial High School, Pamela's early adulthood was characterized by a thirst for adventure and personal growth. She explored life in Phoenix, Arizona, and Newport, Rhode Island, before returning to her roots in Eau Claire to pursue higher education.
On July 15, 1972, Pamela married Dennis Olson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Their union blessed them with three sons: Nathan (1975), Daniel (1979), and Matthew (1981). Their marriage concluded in 1995.
Pamela moved to Tulsa Oklahoma where she married Norman Cass in 2002. Their time together, although cut short by Norman's passing in 2011, provided Pamela with years of happiness and support.
Throughout her life, Pamela was renowned for her capacity for love and acceptance. Her infectious laughter and quick wit could illuminate even the darkest of rooms, bringing joy to all in her presence. Pamela's compassion extended beyond human boundaries; her work at the Colby Veterinary Clinic allowed her to channel her lifelong love for animals into a fulfilling career.
In her twilight years, Pamela faced the formidable challenge of dementia with grace and resilience. Even as the disease progressed, her innate kindness and warmth continued to shine through, touching the hearts of caregivers and loved ones alike. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to Susan Olson, Pamela's daughter-in-law, whose selfless dedication as primary caregiver allowed Pamela to spend her final years surrounded by love and comfort in Homewood, Illinois.
Pamela was preceded in death by her beloved son Matthew, parents Alberta and Fred Wheeler, sister Jackie, and cherished Aunt Rita. Their reunions in the great beyond surely brought her immeasurable joy.
To honor Pamela's memory, a graveside internment ceremony will be held on October 5th at 3 pm at the Old Norwegian Church (St. Paul's) on Willow Road in Curtiss, Wisconsin. There, she will be laid to rest beside her son Matthew, reunited in eternal peace. Following the ceremony, friends and family are invited to celebrate Pamela's vibrant life at the VFW in Colby, Wisconsin. A cocktail reception will commence at 4 pm, followed by dinner at 5 pm, with socializing and reminiscing to follow. Casual dress is encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to "Jackie's Warriors", a dementia charity co-founded by Pamela's son Nathan. This organization, born from personal experience, has raised over $50,000 in just three years to combat dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
