Norma Jean Delaney, born on May 7, 1930, passed away on October 13, 2024, surrounded by her children and family. Norma was a proud resident of Homewood, IL for 65 years and absolutely loved her town which held so many memories and friendships over the years.
Norma is survived by her six children, Doreena Delaney (Curt Gilbertson), Karen Delaney Groves (Jim), Linda Delaney, Darlene Delaney Rozak (Karl), Dana Delaney, and Julie Delaney (Jim Woods). She was blessed with 13 grandchildren; Ok, here it goes: Angela Groves Andreatta, Nick Colbrese, Jimmy Groves, Sara Colbrese, Nora Gilbertson, Kristen Groves, Elizabeth Carey, Kathleen Skelton, Jessica Rozak, Brittany Delaney Mercer, Emily Rozak, Ashley Delaney, Tessa Rozak….and 11 great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and always wanted to hear what everyone was doing. Norma is also survived by a beloved brother, Dean Funk and many nieces and nephews.
Norma was deeply loved by her friends and family for her unwavering support and loving core values. She always had an amazing sense of humor. She grew up in Indiana before moving to Chicago, where she met her husband Dainel B. Delaney. They moved to Homewood where they raised their family. She loved her role as wife, mother, grandmother, Nanny, advisor and baker of legendary cobblers. Later in life she got her dream job as a CNA nurse at Northwestern on the maternity floor. Her passions were playing games, The White Sox, gardening and a good Irish coffee on occasion. There was never a shortage of laughter on game nights. She was able to keep her amazing sense of humor right up to the end of her, as she always said, "blessed" life. She had the gift of making everyone feel special and loved.
The family would like to thank the amazing doctors, nurses and hospice team at South Suburban Hospital. Their kindness was so amazing and appreciated during her last days.
