Nils-Egon Nilsson

Nils-Egon Nilsson of Homewood passed away peacefully after a long fight with dementia on July 18, 2026.

Born March 8, 1933, in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden to Nils-Henry and Hanna Linnéa Nilsson, Nils lived in Seattle, WA, Chicago and Homewood, IL. He met a girl on a ship en route to Sweden while he was in the Swedish Army. Nils also served as a medic in the US Army.

After a few years of mail correspondence with the Chicago girl, he moved to America, and shortly after married the beautiful girl who caught his eye on that ship. Nils was the loving husband of Margaret (Johnson) for 64 years. They lived a full life of roadtrips, nature walks, cross-country skiing, bike rides, visits with friends and quiet moments along the way.

Nils’ love of beautiful things also was apparent in his work and hobbies. Nils was a 2-year graduate of Chicago City College. He was a Master Furrier with Himmel Furs and Kluger Furs for 54 years. His bride Marge marveled at the fact that he could make just about anything with fur. (This is saying a lot, as Margie herself is quite the talented artist!) Nils also had a passion for beautiful cars. From his Porsche to his Benz, he had great taste in the finer things in life!

Brother of Lars Henry (Monica), the late Matts Sune (Eva) and Karl-Ivar. Uncle of Frederik and family whom he left behind in Sweden. Though they never had children of their own, Nils was the beloved godfather of Kristin Connery-Linde. When Kristin was raising her own children, Kaitlyn and Ella cherished spending many afternoons with their “grand-godfather” Nils, who was as kind to them as any grandfather could ever be. He shared with them Swedish traditions and culture – and he sure gave them the best goodbye hugs!

Friend of Dave Linde, Esperanza Gomez, the late Rudi Kluger, the late Frank and Linda Connery, Pam, Kevin and Brian O’Neill, Cathy and Jack Keller as well as their daughter Christina and future son-in-law Matt, Carl Hansen and many more. Nils had the kindest heart and soul, and will be greatly missed by those that were fortunate enough to share in his life.

Private burial at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Memorial to be held at a later date. For additional information contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.
