Michael Nussbaum, age 68, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was the devoted husband of 44 years to Kathy (nee Sterba), loving father to Brian (Jamie) and Jeff (Ngoc), and cherished grandfather to Alice and Cole. He was the son of Henry Nussbaum and the late Hanita "Honey" Nussbaum, and stepson to Roberta. He was also a stepbrother to the late Andrea Stein and Adam Zoll, and an uncle to many.
Born in Chicago on April 3, 1957, Mike moved to Homewood at age 12. He graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 1975 and later from Roosevelt University. Mike spent over 36 years in the telecommunications industry, retiring from AT&T, after which he spent nearly a decade with Kirschner Vision Group providing support and care to patients.
Mike dedicated much of his life to serving the Homewood-Flossmoor community. He began working with the local park district at 16 and later served 12 years as Park District Commissioner and President, contributing to projects still benefiting the community today. He was a frequent volunteer and always willing to lend a hand.
Funeral services will be held at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago.
Shiva will be observed Tuesday evening and again Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brian Nussbaum's Home All are welcome.
