Michael W. Dunican

Michael William Dunican of Homewood passed away on November 18, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Mike was born April 22, 1952 in Chicago and spent his childhood years living in Markham. Mike was loved by so many…son to William and Grace Dunican, beloved husband to Bernice (Muro), loving father to April (Peter) Pienta, Bryan (Jessica) Dunican, Andrea (Greg) Gould, Alyse Dunican, Devoted grandfather to Jake, Cyla, Cole, Emma, Lauren, David, Ava, and Noah. Brother to Linda (Bob) Mathys of Yorkville and uncle to Stephen and Michael (Laura) Mathys.

Mike was a graduate of Hillcrest high school where he excelled in many sports. He played football, baseball, and gymnastics. He was extremely talented at walking on his hands and even as an older adult he would bring this out as a party trick. He had so many friends from that time of his life that even to this day he was very close to. His career was diverse, but working and being a provider for his family was something that gave him joy, pride and a sense of purpose. His work ethic and loyalty was unmatched.

Mike loved Sarasota, FL. As a child he spent many vacations at the Three Crowns hotel with his parents and sister. He carried on this tradition with his own family. All of his children would tell you that their July trips to Sarasota are some of their favorite memories . The Bucaneer Inn, Piccolos, and the Harley sandcastle will forever have a piece of his heart as well as his family's. Mike loved his motorcycle. Mike and Bernie spent a great deal of time with friends riding his Harley Davidson all over the place. Miller and Marlboro were his favorite lights/lites and you would usually see him holding one or the other.

If you ever had the pleasure of being out socially with Mike you would know that he was one of the most generous people you've ever met. He was always more than happy to buy a round or pay for dinner. He was the type of person that if he only had one dollar to his name he would give it to you if you asked. We will all feel the loss of this fun, generous, loyal, and amazing man. Everyone should be so lucky to have a Mike Dunican in their lives.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday November 26 from 12 - 4pm with a brief service at 3:45pm at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 South Dixie Highway, Homewood.  Informal gathering to follow. TBD
