Maureen E. Milord

Maureen E. Milord, née McCambridge, 88, longtime resident of Homewood, beloved wife of Paul for 70 years, cherished mother of Catherine Milord (Art Schueneman), Carol Turner, Kevin (Lisa), Amy Harrell (Kevin), Philip (Donna), Donna Somerville (Luke), Paul (Betsey), Jackie Raimo (Jeff), loving grandmother to Noel (Adrian), Kelly (Flower), Matt, Henry (Kala), Sophie, Emily, Christopher (Alyssa), Grace (John), Nolan (Alanna), Eliza (Kyle), Luke, Kate, Eden, Joanna, Leah; doting great grandmother to Isaiah, Andria, Ayana, Nina, Birdie, Beau, and Aria. Maureen was also a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews and a dear friend to so many.

Maureen grew up in a tight-knit family with her parents Kathleen (Carey) and James McCambridge, brothers Red, Jack, and Jim and sisters Kay, Mary, and Pat in the Brainerd neighborhood in Chicago, just four doors down from Paul. Her lifelong relationship with Paul began at Saint Kilian's elementary school and blossomed in their high school years, with Maureen traveling far from Longwood Academy of Our Lady to attend Paul's senior Prom at Loras Academy in Iowa. They married soon after graduation and two years later welcomed the first of eight children and began construction on the family home on Olive Road.

Maureen fully embraced her role as COO of the Milord family, wielding her superpowers of organization, influence, mentorship, and budgeting to keep the whole enterprise running like a well-oiled machine. As grand hostess of countless events and celebrations, Maureen made it look effortless to feed and entertain scores of family and friends, rendering the Milord house a welcoming and lively home for all.

In all her spare hours, Maureen also dedicated her time and talent to the wider community in myriad ways; as an active and devout parishioner of Saint Joseph's, an involved member of the League of Women Voters and the Great Lakes Conservation Corp, serving on the Homewood Village Board, working at early recycling sites, and volunteering with many local political campaigns and at countless school and sports events. Beyond that, she and Paul shared a love of theater that led them to the Chicago Heights Drama Group where they contributed their considerable talents on and off stage as well as forged lasting friendships. Maureen was Paul's assistant director for many productions, served on the board, and headed up ticket sales and promotions for many years. Their annual summer Drama Group pool party was an impressive and unforgettable production of its own!

Maureen and Paul's lifelong love of the arts, literature, travel, and the wider world created a vibrant home that fostered curiosity, humor, and lively discussion, all underpinned by respect and love.

Maureen will be very dearly missed.
