Mary Clare Walton

Mary Clare Walton. Age 53. Long time Homewood resident. Fiancee of Richard Chapman, Whiting, Indiana. Daughter of Nathaniel Walton and the late Mary (Sullivan) Walton. Sister of Edie (Tom) Dobrez, Anne (Bob) Skoronski, Ray (Deb) Walton, Tim (Amy) Walton, Maggie (Brent) Bachus and Jeanne (Barry) Nohalty.  Aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

Graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School and longtime employee of the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet & Fitness Club and Jewel-Osco. Mary loved people and quickly made friends. Conversation came easy and bonds were made quickly. She loved what she loved, and the list was long!  The Gilmore Girls, Dunkin Donuts, The Tin Ceiling, line dancing, Pierogi Fest, Lake Michigan, holiday decorating, Ross Dress for Less, seasonal pillows and comforters were among her favorite things. Most of all she loved her family and especially, Rich, and their dog Kernel. Rich's parents, Sandra and Harold became her second family.

Life took an unfortunate turn when Mary was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. She faced the disease bravely with the capable and loving assistance of Emma and Erin. Mary will be missed by all, including the random stranger she would engage with conversation and kindness. The world would be a much nicer place if we all lived like Mary.

Visitation at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home at 18230 Dixie Hwy, Homewood, IL on September 22, 4 - 8 pm. Funeral Mass at Infant Jesus of Prague Church, 1131 Douglas, Flossmoor, IL on Friday September 23 at 11:15 am.
