Martha spent her early years with her parents in Youngstown, OH. After high school, she attended DePauw University in Greencastle, IN and graduated from college with a B.A. degree in Education. While at DePauw, she met her future husband, George Phillips. She and George were married at Gobin Church on DePauw's campus on the day of her college graduation on June 9, 1957. After college, she taught high school in Highland, IN for two years while George completed his education at the Northwestern School of Law. She and George had two sons, Tom and Bill. When her boys reached school age, she started part time employment at the Glenwood Village Pet Hospital, where she worked for the next 20+ years, pursuing her lifelong passion and devotion to caring for dogs. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. She was cherished by her family and blessed to have many close friendships throughout the Homewood-Flossmoor area and had a very tight group of lifelong DePauw friends throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by her husband George, her son Bill, her grandchildren Elizabeth and Michael (Emily), and her great grandchildren Annabelle, Warren, and Madeline. She was preceded in death by her son Tom.
