Margaret Ellen Woods passed away peacefully on Saturday January 8, 2022 at the age of 96. She is the daughter of the late Harold F. and Catherine T. Woods. Born October 3, 1925, she was the youngest of three children and she cherished her childhood memories growing up in Chicago with her siblings Dorothy (Al) Daum and William (Eileen) Woods, both preceded in death.
Margaret, better know as Peggy by her family, friends and all those who loved her was a proud graduate of the University of Miami. After a short time living in New York between her college days she settled in Olympia Fields where she was a longtime resident. Peggy was a professional career woman who enjoyed many things in her leisure time including traveling abroad, theater, golf and a good card game of bridge with her closest friends. She also had a deep connection with the history of Chicago and her love for the city. Being a White Sox fan was a shared interest she had with her father along with 18-holes on the golf course. One cannot forget her love of shopping at Marshall Fields on State Street where her mother worked for a time. Peggy truly had an amazing and fulfilling life. Her key to longevity was Fannie May candy, Jays potato chips and Mountain Dew.
Although no children of her own, Peggy was blessed with seven nieces and nephews; Nancy (John) Froning, William (John) Woods, Karen (Rich) Reichley, Donald (Jane) Woods, Georgia (Ron) Hart, Mary Ellen (Chris) Winemiller, and JoAnn (Randy) Alferink. She also enjoyed being a great aunt and great-great aunt to many nieces and nephews. We all share in the sorrow of losing our beloved Aunt Peggy.
A special note of thanks to all the wonderful staff at Alden Courts of Shorewood for their amazing care in Peggy's final stage of life.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home located at 18230 S.
