Margaret K. Heavey

Margaret Kathleen Heavey, a beloved life partner, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, at her home in Homewood, Illinois. Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, Margaret was 55 years old at the time of her passing.

Margaret's love for her family was a constant blessing and source of strength and joy.

All those privileged to know her, would mostly definitely speak of her beauty, kindness, care, sensitivity, humor, artistic view, and deep faith as a Christian.

Margaret Heavey survived by her devoted life partner, Bryan Howard; stepmother Carole Graveline; sister Jennifer (David) McCollum; sister Erin Heavey; brother James Heavey; stepsister Linda Graveline; stepbrother AJ Graveline; stepsister Whitney (Joe) Murphy; stepbrother Adam (Emily) Moore; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Captain James Lee Heavey, retired U.S. Navy Veteran, Suzanne Moore nee Rowley, and Stepfather Stephen Walter Moore.

Margaret graduated from Homewood Flossmoor High School after which time she attended Joliet Jr. College and Chicago School of Floral Design where she studied horticulture, landscape design, and floral design, respectively. Following her education, Margaret worked at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois and Innsbrook Country Club in Merrillville, Indiana as a groundskeeper/horticulturalist. Later in her career she followed her passion and became an independent floral consultant and designer providing services for weddings and events.

In retirement, Margaret loved working in and expanding her exquisite floral and vegetable gardens. Margaret also enjoyed annual camping trips with family and friends in addition to traveling and spending winters in Mexico and Florida.

Margaret had a deep belief in giving to others less fortunate, giving selflessly to charitable organizations. Most notably, she sponsored children in Africa through Compassion International, an organization her mother supported as well. Margaret spread kindness and joy to everyone she encountered. She will be missed but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations made to Compassion International Colorado Springs, Co 80921 or Moody Bible Institute Chicago, Illinois 60610
