Louis (Louie) Lira, 97, originally from Chicago, retired & lived in Mesa, Arizona and returned to Illinois, residing at the senior living, Waterford Estates in Hazel Crest for the last 5 years and passed peacefully on December 15, 2020. He was born in Zacoalco, Jalisco, Mexico and came to the United States at a young age. Graduate of Lane Tech HS. Worked as a postal clerk for the US Postal Service and retired at 55. Brother of deceased Albert, Mary Louise, Gregory, Phillip and Marshal. Fond brother of Mary Socorro and Alfred and many nieces and nephews. Cherished friend of Ric, Manuel, Gina, Damien, Isabella, Ed, the late George, the late Willie and many others. Never married, but like a father to his niece Margie. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a true blue Cub fan, an avid fisherman and known for his delicious fishy fry's, a member of the Moose, loved to play Bingo, cards and go to the casinos. He loved to give fruit from his fruit trees to everyone. Everyone was welcomed in his home. Resting at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Hwy, Homewood Saturday December 19, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Service at 12:00 p.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
