Lois by. She had her handprint on many facets of her family and friends' lives. No one was insignificant to Lois, as she would listen, love, and support those who she encountered in her daily life. Homemaker seems like an archaic moniker in today's vernacular, but Mom regarded it as a symbol of dignity. It was her suit of armor as she leaned in to support, love, laugh, and cry with those she cared about. As the youngest daughter of 6 in an Irish family she learned early on that life was precious and brilliant at the same time. Being the youngest allowed her perspective from her 5 older siblings. She was comfortable in her own skin, both spiritually and figuratively. It was New Year's Eve 1954 that Lois met Ron and her life's course altered forever in the best way imaginable. Not that it was all sunshine and rainbows, but there were early impediments to their courtship. For one, Mom was a dutiful Irish Catholic girl who found the love of her life in a Jewish young man, Ron. Undeterred and against the odds Lois & Ron began to set a new course and an example that lasted 62 years. Never taking a minute for granted they chartered a path less taken. It wasn't a linear trajectory because they had to account for narrower outside views. Never dissuaded they found their footing and were a beacon to our entire family. Lois was a poised and sophisticated spirit who manage so many roles as a mom to Don and Bill. She instilled love, humility, and tenacity that were the foundations of their lives. And Nanny to Bailey and Tyler, and most recently as Great Grandmother to Willa. She was an active participant in her grandkids' lives. Taking on adventures and exploring life together. Nurturing their interests in both school and extracurricular. As the family grew, she embraced both Bill and Erin as part of her tribe.
If you were part of Lois's ring of friendship that meant you had her confidence. She made it her mission to be present in those second families we call friends. She taught us that those friendships are of a mutual choosing that beget a separate honor within one's life. They gift you counseling, support, candor, and unwavering loyalty. Lois became the matriarch of the Sone family and was the consummate host keeping the family together through life's milestones and utilizing the holidays and reunions as tools to bond their souls. She led by example and never tooted her own horn. Not to say she couldn't get her dander up; she could turn into a mama bear at a moment's notice and wouldn't back down from anyone if they were trespassing in her family's lives. Most of all, Lois was the bridge to so many memories and experiences that it was an honor to call her a wife, a mom, and a friend as many did.
