Linda Skrzynski Gattis

Linda Skrzynski Gattis (née Davis), age 82, of Olympia Fields, passed away March 14, 2026.  She is preceded in death by her first husband Leo Robert Skrzynski, 1974, and her parents Lester and Hilda Davis.  Her legacy continues through her loving sons Leo Scott Skrzynski (Michelle) and Curtis Carl Skrzynski. Linda was the proud grandmother of Alexa Skrzynski and Tyler Skrzynski.  She is also survived by her sister Jacquline Hoffman (Robert) and brother Tom Davis (Amie).

Linda was born in Missouri, living in Granger until the family moved to Quincy, Il, where she finished high school at Quincy Senior High School.  She went on to Iowa Wesleyan University, receiving a two-year degree and meeting her future husband, Robert.
They were married in Flossmoor, Il on June 12, 1962, and lived in Chicago Heights, Crete, and Park Forest, before settling into the house in Olympia Fields on February 28, 1968, where she then lived for almost 58 years.
Throughout her life, she was very active in her Church, including serving as Treasurer for decades, and also helping with keeping the altar acolytes' vestments in good shape.  Even after deciding she wanted to pass on the Treasurer's office to somebody else, she continued to be elected, and so, served awhile longer.
Also active and helpful throughout the neighborhood, she organized and ran a Block Party for her block and one block over from 1975 to 1988. She was undoubtedly the most well-known of all the neighbors, who all knew each other by name.
Throughout the family's life, she was the great and reliable navigator and driver for so many trips in three great American station wagons, along with several Amtrak trips to both coasts, and in between.
She loved to walk all around the neighborhood with friends,  "when I could still get around" as she would say, and enjoyed seeing all kinds of nature wherever she went.  Always clipping little facts and trivia from newspapers and magazines to share with others, she loved continuing to learn about just about anything, and found SO MANY things intriguing and fun to understand.
She always wanted to DO MORE, whether to know or understand or experience more, or, more importantly to her, DO MORE for others, whether for family, friends, or strangers, even those she would never meet.  One example of helping strangers is her Christmas donations of winter hats each year during the 1980s and 90s.  She would drive around to however many Walgreen's necessary to accumulate at least 50 triple-thick knit winter hats, and then bring them to shelters, so that SOMEBODY got the best hat there was out here.
She did SO MUCH for so many, and she will be so very much loved, and so very much missed, by all of us that were fortunate enough to share her Earthtime with us, and ours with her.
