Leonas Aras Sutkus passed away on September 9th, 2025, at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. His fight with cancer was short and he is now resting.
Aras was born on April 18, 1961, to Ada and Pranas Sutkus in Park Ridge, Illinois. He attended Homewood Flossmoor High School and began working right away. In his youth, he was an active air scout in the Lithuanian Scout community (Lituanica).
Aras worked in various jobs including delivery driver at Impo Tile & Virginia Tile and warehouse management work/driver at Carpet Time.
A lover of recreational sports and the outdoors, Aras was an avid golfer and gardener, diligently tending to the herbs, vegetables and cherry tree that grew in his backyard. He was also a renowned meat smoker and griller, known fondly for his famous "fatty" dish at family gatherings. Aras often savored a small slice of heaven at Panama City Beach, Florida, basking in the sun with a beer in hand.
Amid the chaos of life, Aras offered peace and calm. He immediately put others at ease with his even temper, contagious smile and often a joke up his sleeve. From strangers to loved ones, whenever someone needed help, Aras was there with a steady hand and a heart of gold. It's a part he knew how to play well, the absence of which will be felt dearly by his family, friends and community.
Aras is preceded by his father Pranas and brother-in-law Arvydas Kiela. He is survived by his loving wife Anne O'Neill-Sutkus, mother Ada Sutkus, brother Linas Sutkus (Aušra), sisters Dana Gauthier (Daniel), Vilia Sutkus-Kiela and Rasa Sutkus, nieces Andrea Kiela, Ginta Garland (Andrew), Jackie Buccino (Matthew), Daina Kiela, Loreta Sutkus and Julia Gauthier, nephews Tommy Gauthier and John Gauthier (Diana), grand nephew Artūras and grand niece Sofia.
