Lawrence Prescott Littlewood was born on February 8, 1931 in Granville Ferry, Nova Scotia to Eva Palmer Littlewood and James Prescott Littlewood.
Larry began his career in banking at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia just after high school. At 18 he was transferred to the western Provinces of Canada.
In 1957, Larry began working for the Bank of Nova Scotia on Wall Street and met his soon to be wife Edna at a singles group meeting at Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan. Edna and Larry were married at the Griggstown Reformed Church in Belle Mead, New Jersey on July 11, 1959. Larry and Edna were married for 66 years.
Larry and Edna made their home in Brooklyn New York and welcomed their children Kirk and Karen. In 1967 Larry accepted a position at Beverly Bank in Chicago and the family relocated to Chicago's south suburbs. Larry eventually moved on to Tinley Park Bank and Matteson Richton Bank.
Larry started L. P. Littlewood and Associates Inc. in 1980 and continued working as a financial advisor for the rest of his life.
Larry was very involved with the Boy Scouts with Kirk. He led and taught by example. Having a strong moral character was essential to every word and action he took. His word was his bond. He felt responsible to care for each and every member of his family.
Karen and her dog Trevor were Larry's sidekicks and would go boating every time asked. After Karen and Kirk were grown, Larry became very involved with the church's youth group and the Carter Foundation. He would travel with the group to build homes with Habitat for Humanity.
Larry loved boating and initially had a cabin cruiser named Lollipop which was moored at Jackson Park harbor and later Chips which was docked in New Buffalo and then the Hammond Marina. Larry loved to go fishing on Lake Michigan with the hopes of catching the elusive salmon. Boating on Lake Michigan became a family affair with trips down the inland water ways to Starved Rock State Park, Burns Harbor and exploring the Cal-Sag Canal from Chicago to the Hammond Marina. The Air and Water Show and Venetian nights In Chicago became family favorites.
When the weather turned and it was finally time to take the boat out of the water (in November), Larry passed the winters in his workshop turning out custom furniture and toys for the family. His mastery of the craft included everything from boat building to Queen Ann tables.
Larry loved to explore the world with the family. Trips included a road trip to the west, annual trips to New Jersey and Nova Scotia to visit family, winter holiday vacations to the Florida Keys and Sanibel Island, a family heritage trip to England, Scotland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark and many trips on the inland waterways with the Delta Queen Steamboat Company, along with numerous trips with his sister and brother in laws. Larry and Edna also embarked on a road trip of a lifetime driving to Alaska while visiting some of the places Larry lived in the Canadian west. Within the past decade Larry and Edna continued to vacation in their home in Nova Scotia while also exploring the Galapagos, Botswana, Africa, Argentina and Antarctica. His final trip was at the end of October on a cruise on the Hudson River from Albany to New York City. As Karen says, "Dad is always up for a good road trip."
Besides traveling with his wife and children, Larry loved traveling with his brother Robie to Nova Scotia in their retirement. Together they worked to restore their family home.
After a long battle with cancer and Parkinson's disease, Larry passed away on November 26th at home and leaves behind his wife Edna, his son Kirk and wife Lynette, daughter Karen and husband Joseph Zikor and his nephews Keith Littlewood, Kevin Littlewood and Larry Littlewood and their families. Larry is predeceased by his Parents Prescott and Eva, his brother Robie and his sister Vesta.
