Laura Godfryd of Thornton, IL, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was 66 years old.
Born on July 3, 1959, in the South Side of Chicago, IL, Laura was the beloved daughter of the late William and Rita Rieman. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched everyone she met.
Laura is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Ron Godfryd, and her children: Joshua Rowland of Thornton, Phillip Olczak (Colleen Lynch) of Bolingbrook, and Joseph Olczak of Plainfield. She was also a proud stepmother to Lauren Godfryd of Thornton. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Caleb, JoeJoe, Jackson, Jameson, Violet, and Archer. Laura was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved grandson, Robert "Arlo."
Known for her fierce love of family, Laura found joy in simple pleasures—sunny days spent in the pool, laughter with friends, and the occasional trip to the casino. She also enjoyed spending time with Ron and her friends at the Piscateers Club, and was always ready with a smile, a hug, or a helping hand.
Throughout her career, Laura held various roles including Lab Technician at Landauer, Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens, Project Management Assistant at Systems Design, Inc., and most recently, Shipping Coordinator at Michael's Distribution Center. Her colleagues remember her as fun-loving, efficient, and dedicated.
A celebration of Laura's life will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood, IL. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a prayer service and luncheon.
