Karen K. Kappel

Karen Kristine Kappel passed away on May 23, 2026, in Bloomington, Il. She was born in Chicago, IL on October 14, 1938, to Mildred and Charles Fischer. She married Robert Peddicord in August 1956. They had two children, Kimberlee, and Lisa. After eight years he left the marriage.

In October 1967 she married Elmer Bernard. She also added two children, Scott and Robin. We became a happy family of six. In April 1984 Elmer passed away after a long illness.

In August 1986 she married Gene Kappel and welcomed his four children and his grandchildren to the family. They were married until Gene's death in March 2011.

She worked for many years at The Final Touch Bath Boutique and was active in her church. In her retirement she volunteered at The Village Door, enjoyed Red Hat Society Activities and gardening. The most important things in her life were always her family and friends.

She experienced much loss in her life with the loss of two husbands and two children, Scott and Lisa. She was also proceeded in death by her parents Charles and Mildred, and her sister Jacquelyn. Through it all she kept her strong faith

She is survived by her daughters Kimberlee (Gary) Roemersberger and Robin (late Duffer) Wallen, Stepchildren Gail (Paul) Behrman, Glenn (Joyce) Kappel, Mark (Jennifer) Kappel, Craig (Meg) Kappel, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.

Her funeral will be on Thursday May 28, 2026, at 12:30 pm at Salem Lutheran Church 18324 S Ashland Ave Homewood, Il. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church. Interment to follow at 1st Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Richton Park, IL  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church or to Our Saviour Lutheran Church 1510 N Main St Normal, Il 61761.
