Juan Antonio Guajardo

With profound sadness and immense love, we announce the passing of Juan Guajardo on July 3, 2024.

Juan was born in 1944 in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico to Maria Olga Castellaños Guajardo and Francisco Guajardo Perales. He emigrated to Chicago, IL in 1958. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. In 1965 he married Lenore née Chico with whom he raised four sons: Alexander John, Christopher Anthony (Laura Jahnke), Alfonso Robert (Christine Crawley), and Peter Edward (April Doscher) Juan is preceded in death by his brother, Alfonso G. Guajardo (Judith Lederman), and his sister Teresa Isabel Rojas (Demetrio Rojas).

His warmth and kindness live on in his grandchildren, Trinity Dona, Eden Lenore, and Brianna. He is also remembered by his nephews and nieces, Tarcisio, R. Joshua, late Andrew, Alexandra Isé, and Micaela Rose.

A prolific storyteller, Juan was the unofficial keeper of the Guajardo family history. He was never without a kind word and a smile for those around him, who cherished his wisdom and laughter. Juan shared his love of cooking with family and friends alike, and his tamales will be dearly missed. In his free time, he enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, and dancing with his lifelong dance partner, Lenore. He was also a member of SCYSC.
