Joyce M. Divila, age 82, of Hazel Crest, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, entered this life on November 2, 1942, to her beloved parents, Alex F. and Mary J. (Zdon) Zabinski. Joyce passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2024.
Joyce is survived by her beloved husband, Frank B. Divila; her brother, Larry (Donna) Zabinski; her sister, Nancy (Wayne) Aye; her children, Jill Suzanne (Charles) Price, Jacob (Lee) King, her grandchildren: Alexandra, Andrew, Abigail, and Anabelle Price; her sister-in-law, Karla Schwarz, her cousin; Vivian (Louis) Kulekowskis; aunt to Dan (Donna) Zabinski, Kimberly Zabinski, Matthew (Ysabelle) Aye, Jonathan Aye, Michael (Julie) Schwarz, and Kristina (Brian) Cavanaugh, and many cherished great-nieces, and great-great nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Mary Zabinski.
Joyce was born in Chicago, raised in the Gage Park community of Chicago, attending St. Gall Parish, and schools. Joyce spent much of her life as a resident of Hazel Crest. She graduated from Gage Park High School, followed by University of Illinois, where she met her husband, whom she married on January 9, 1965.
She was a gifted elementary school teacher and later served as a divorce mediator, working under notable judges in Cook County Circuit Courts. She furthered her education by earning a master's degree in counseling, from Roosevelt University, and completing multiple certifications.
Joyce was a longtime member of St. Joseph Parish (St. John Neumann Church), where she was active with children's programs.
Over the years, Joyce enjoyed traveling across North America, gardening, shopping, Chicago Bulls, and 'The Diners Club'.
Joyce was loved by many, and will be missed by all.
To honor her memory, a visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24th, from 1-5 p.m. at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood. Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, (St. John Neumann Church), 18015 Dixie Hwy, Homewood, IL on Monday, November 25th at 10:30 a.m.
