Joseph Martin Beck, age 87, of Chicago Heights, beloved husband of 52 years to his dear, late Frances, was called to everlasting life on May 1, 2026, surrounded by his family. His family was the focus of his life. He was the adored father of Kathleen (Steve) Ruppert, Joe Beck, and Sarah (Brent) Miller, proud "Pa" to Matthew, Nate, Nora, James and Colleen, a loving brother and uncle, and a friend to many. He was born on May 11, 1938 and grew up in Evergreen Park. He graduated from Leo High School. He started working at Illinois Central Railroad at the age of 18 and stayed there for over 40 years until he retired. He made lifelong friends through the IC. He and Fran always made others feel welcome and they were known for quietly doing little things that had a great impact on others, making people feel seen and appreciated. Anyone who knew Joe, whether for a few minutes or many years, was struck by his goodness and kindness. He took great care of Fran during her illness, missed her terribly after her passing and looked forward to being with her again after death. He was a man of faith and a longtime parishioner at Infant Jesus of Prague where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, delivered donations for the Giving Tree and enjoyed helping count the collection money. His favorite activity was spending time with his family. He made the best Sunday brunch, could strike up a conversation with anyone and was a constant loving presence in the lives of others. He will be remembered for his kindness and care for all those around him. While we deeply mourn his passing, we are grateful for the example he set. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, May 8th from 3-7 at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood, Illinois. Funeral Home prayers Saturday 9:45am at the Funeral Home. His funeral Mass will be Saturday, May 9th at 10:30 at St. Veronica (formerly Infant Jesus of Prague) in Flossmoor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Amate House (www.amatehouse.org) or Misericordia Home (www.misericordia.com). For further information contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.
