John D. Curran

John D. Curran, 75, of Flossmoor, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024  after a recent cancer diagnosis. He was born on May 14, 1949 in Blue Island, Illinois to Bob and Jean Curran. John spent a lifetime cherishing friendships and helping anyone in need.

John is survived by his wife, Julie, daughters Kristen and Sheri, son, Jeremy (Michelle), grand-twins, Evan and Emmi, a granddaughter, Mackenzie, brothers Paul (Valery), Stephen, Roger and many nieces and nephews.

John's gift was leadership. He was a graduate of Purdue University in Mechanical Engineering and a proud member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. John was president of the family owned  business, Meccon Industries, Inc., for 45 years, working alongside his brothers, their sons and his own son. He loved and thrived on the challenge of construction and installing jet fuel systems for many airports around the US.

John was a dedicated civil servant. He chaired the Plan Commission in Flossmoor for over 25  years. He chaired many committees with the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) and Pipe fitters Union 597. He was twice awarded the McCauley Labor Relations Award for excellence in negotiating the contract between the pipe fitters and the contractors. The Mechanical Contractors Association honored John with the 2020 Lawinger Lifetime Achievement Award.

He served on the Board of Directors of Olympia Fields Country Club and was elected President of the board in 2016. His legacy to the club was the enormous renovation that took place in 2018. His vision improved the Normandy Room, the hallway to the Pro Shop, the Ladies  Locker Room, the Stagg Room, the 73rd Hole, and the beautiful serpentine outdoor dining area that everyone currently enjoys.

John was an avid golfer, but his great love was his family. He was loved by many and will be truly missed by all.
