Joanne Rosaia Teresa (Columbro) Boner, 90, formerly of Homewood, IL passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in her apartment at the Villas of Holly Brook in Savoy, IL. She was born in Seattle, Washington to Andy J. and Teresa F. (Romano) Columbro on March 28, 1931. She attended Roosevelt High School and Seattle University where she received her degree in science. She married Gordon E. Boner in Seattle on November 8, 1952. Gordon and Joanne had three children, Steve (Marcie) Bonner, Susan (Dena) Bonner and Teresa (Rockie) Tincher. The family moved in 1961 to Homewood, IL where she resided until 2015. While in Homewood, she was active in the Women's Guild and St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as an Eucharistic Minister and enjoyed her daily breakfast club after 7:00 AM daily mass. She loved watching Hallmark movies, reading romance novels, cooking her famous mostaccioli, and the color pink. Working in her yard and with her flowers was her true passion. She won the Homewood Beautification yearly until they finally gave her the Landmark award for all time. She worked at the Blue Island Medical Center for years as a phlebotomist, eventually becoming the head of the lab. She maintained lasting friendships with many of the women she worked with and after retiring, met with them monthly for lunch and companionship. In 2015 she moved from Homewood to Champaign and lived with her daughter two years until moving into the assisted living complex at the Villas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, one brother and three sisters. She is survived by her brother Andy Columbro, her three children, grandchildren Jason (Rebekah)Bowie, Shaun (Taryn) Marden, and Andrew Bonner as well as five great-grandchildren, Jayla, Janessa and Jazelle Bowie and Cooper and Griffin Marden as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joanne had a very generous heart, kind spirit and great sense of humor. She was all about her faith, family and friends. She touched many lives over the years and will be greatly missed by all that were near and dear to her.
Memorial contributions can be made to the South Suburban Humane Society where her loyal grand dog, Brodie was adopted from. Thanks to all the wonderful people at the Villas of Holly Brook that took great care of Joanne throughout her stay there.
