It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Joan C. Alvers, on July 12th, 2024, two days after she celebrated her 83rd birthday with her family by her side.
She was born July 10th, 1941, in Homewood, Illinois, where she lived most of her life. She was a loving wife to her late Husband Robert L. Alvers Jr., and a wonderful and loving mother to her daughters Deborah Maxwell (husband John) and Pamela Webb (husband Paul). She adored her five grandchildren Nicole Webb, John Maxwell Jr., Kristen Maxwell, Allison Webb, and Abigail Webb. She is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, along with many nieces and nephews. She was an Honored Job's Daughter and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Homewood.
For most of her life, mom was a stay-at-home mom who was extremely involved in all of our activities from being Room Mom, Brownie Leader, to even being the lunch lady at school.
Mom had a great sense of humor. She had such a kind heart and would do anything for her children and grandchildren. She loved vacationing with her family and would take us to wonderful places. She loved going to Vegas to play the slots and to people watch. Besides her family, her next love was chocolate.
The grandchildren have special memories of shopping trips, special outings, sleepovers, and just stopping on their way home from school for snacks and boy did she have snacks. Her famous Swedish Pancakes will be carried on for generations to come. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without her famous Swedish Meatballs and Ham-and-Pickle Roll Ups.
Mom will be deeply missed.
Rest in Peace. You will be forever in our hearts and memories.
Visitation will be held 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 17 at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood, IL 60430. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 18. Interment to follow at Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Chicago IL.
