Jerry L. Bugg

In loving memory of Jerry L. Bugg, age 68. Retired from the steel industry after 46 years of service. Loving husband of Debbie. Survived by his dear sister Donna Maki and his two sons, Jerry Allen and Steven Thomas. He was loved brother-in-law to Cathie and Roger Corning and Bruce and Cheryl McPherson. Dear uncle to nephews and nieces, David Maki, Jr. (Rosie Sanchez), Don Maki (Susan) and Dawn Maki (Chris Hinthorn), Cara Dodaro Smith (Chris), Rory Corning, and Sami McPherson. Great uncle to 7 nieces and nephews and Great-great uncle to 6 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Glenna M. Rice, brother Allen Bugg and nephew Danny Maki.

Jerry was born on October 3, 1954, and was raised in Harvey and Hazel Crest, Illinois and was a longtime resident of Steger, Illinois. He attended Thornton High School and graduated from Bloom Township High School, class of 1972.

Jerry began his 46 plus year career in the steel industry in June of 1974 hired by Interlake and assigned to the Maintenance Dept. as laborer becoming a motor Inspector apprentice (electrician). He remained in the steel industry through the closing of Acme Steel, the repurchase of the plant by ISG Int'l. Steel Group, then the purchase by Mittal Steel and retired from Arcelor-Mittal February 28, 2021.

During his career as an electrician, he was a staunch supporter and active member of the United Steelworkers of America. He was chairman of the Grievance Committee for 10 years, Vice President of his local USWA 1053 for 3 years, followed by 10 years as President.

He was a Free Mason for 20 years achieving the office of Senior Warden, Crete Lodge 763. He served his lodge and brethren well.

Jerry adored his two dogs Tsuki and Kuma spoiling them often with tasty treats and lots of cuddles and attention. He never liked to be from them for long.

He was patriotic and loved the history and beauty of the United States. Jerry loved to travel visiting historic cities and sites, as well as exploring the majestic natural beauty and diversity of this country. He became quite a talented "Photo-Bugg" capturing the images of our beloved and diverse national parks, natural wonders, creatures, people and places on his vacations. Jerry believed taking a photo was capturing just a single moment in time and in life, before it's gone and lost instantly, recording it in a photo to view, love and remember for all time.
