Jean A. Gorcowski

Jean Gorcowski, aged 96, longtime resident of Flossmoor, Illinois. Passed away on September 26, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband of seventy-one years, Nicholas in 2020. She is survived by two children, Susan (Brian) McLaughlin and Michael (Pam) Gorcowski; three grandchildren, Max, Adam and JP and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean grew up in Harvey, Illinois surrounded by siblings. She was the youngest of six, a child of the Great Depression and World War Il. She married her husband Nick in 1948 and for seventy-one years they enjoyed the miracle of each other's company. Jean was especially devoted to her sister, Ann, who lived just two blocks away, and who Jean will now meet in heaven. Jean suffered from Aphasic Dementia but even at the end she kept her feistiness as well as the sparkle in her eye and her infectious smile that always drew others to her.

Jean was devoted to her work and her family. She was employed for decades at ACME, then Interlake Steel, as an expediter. She brought these skills to her family where she lovingly and expeditiously nurtured two children then later helped raise three grandchildren. Jean and Nicholas traveled extensively, taking cruises to Greece, Alaska and the Panama Canal and trips to Italy, Ireland, and each year to Eagle River, Wisconsin. She was a master at conversation making everyone who spoke to her feel heard. You would always find warm coffee and a welcoming smile at her home, which was always open to friends and family.
