On November 9, 2023, Janis Marie (Erdmier) McCoy passed away with her family at her side.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 39 years, Daniel; her daughters Kelly and Megan, her mother June Erdmier-Salen, brothers Doug (Lisa) Erdmier, Tom (Judy) Erdmier, Bill (Lisa) Erdmier, sisters Karen (Tom) Cramer, Cheryl Erdmier (Tasker) and Tammi Erdmier (David), Kristina Salen, Greg, Todd and Frank Salen, brother-in-law Joseph (Mary) McCoy, sister-in-law Kathy (Wayne) Eastman, 22 nieces and nephews including Godsons Jason Barry, Bill Cramer and Christian Erdmier, numerous dear cousins and many treasured friends.
Janis was pre-deceased by her father, Donald W. Erdmier and step-father Stanley E. Salen.
Jan (AKA: Gee & Erd) was born in Chicago on January 31, 1955. She grew up in Olympia Fields, Illinois and graduated from Western Illinois University in 1977. She was a teacher in Matteson School District 162 for almost four decades as a classroom teacher, gifted education teacher and elementary basketball coach. Jan was very involved at Bjorklund House (part of Covenant Ability Network IL) in Oak Forest, where her daughter Kelly resides.
Family was of paramount importance to Jan and she loved spending time with any and all of them. She especially loved all the children of her nieces and nephews. After her retirement, she became an avid traveler and was fortunate to visit many countries with her "travel buddies."
A memorial wake will take place on Tuesday, November 14 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood. A private service for family will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
