Janet T. Sherman, 79, of Shorewood, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend, Janet will be remembered for her caring spirit, her stories, her love of decorating her home for every holiday and season, and the passion she brought to everything she did.
Born on August 16, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, Janet was the only child of Clara and Stanley Traska. She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Maryville University, earning her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing. Throughout her career as a registered nurse, she worked in hospitals and surgery centers, sharing her knowledge, compassion, and dedication to health and quality of life with both colleagues and patients.
On August 25, 1967, Janet married her lifelong sweetheart, Robert E. Sherman, in Florissant, Missouri. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and friendship. For 59 years, Robert and Janet shared a remarkable marriage built on devotion, laughter, support, and an enduring love that carried them through every stage of life. Together they created loving and welcoming homes in North Carolina, Illinois, and New York, before settling in Shorewood, Illinois, in 2004. Janet’s greatest joy was her family. She was immensely proud of her two children and delighted in their accomplishments throughout their lives. She cherished the lives her children built and the loving relationships she shared with Lisa and Robert as part of her family. Becoming a grandmother brought her special happiness, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with Meghan and Gregory, celebrating milestones, sharing stories, and creating cherished memories. Janet also nurtured lifelong friendships with many dear friends whose companionship enriched her life.
Janet is survived by her beloved husband, Robert; her children, Michael (Lisa) and Clare (Robert); and her cherished grandchildren, Meghan and Gregory. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood, Illinois, at a future date and time. Janet's remains will be lovingly cared for by her husband until they are both interred at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
