James E. Hackel

Jim Hackel of Oswego, IL passed away suddenly on September 30, 2023 at the age of 59. He was doing what he enjoyed, going to a Big 10 football game.

Jim was born on August 1, 1964 to William F. Hackel, Sr (deceased 1998) and Virginia (nee Reilly) Hackel  (deceased 1999).  He is survived by his brothers- Thomas Hackel of Glenwood, IL and William Hackel ( Mary Beth) of Hoffman Estates, IL, and niece- Kristen Hackel of Arlington Heights, IL,

Jim grew up in Glenwood, IL and graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School. He also attended Triton College.  He worked for many years for the United States Postal Service, Transportation Security Administration and most recently the Drug Enforcement Administration. His last position with the DEA was his most challenging and most rewarding.

Jim had many interests. He was an avid reader and in particular history, music, and biographies.  He also enjoyed challenging jigsaw puzzles. He loved his beloved dog/companion Layla who passed recently. Jim enjoyed traveling to concerts and college football towns to catch a game. In recent years he was an amazing cook which his family especially enjoyed all of his delicious meals. His prime rib dinner on Christmas is legendary.  He also enjoyed staying in touch with the boys he grew up with which he fondly referred to as "The Glenwood/Homewood Boys".  He was a devoted fan of all the Chicago sports teams.

He will be dearly missed.  We have many fond memories of good times & adventures.  We will miss his sense of humor/wit and stimulating conversations.

In lieu of flowers, please enjoy a delicious meal with your family/friends and/or attend a sporting event in Jim's honor.
