Howard (Howie) Morrissey, age 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Tuesday June 15 th . Howie, of Dolton and Lansing, was the beloved son of the late Howard E. Morrissey, Sr. and the late Anna Marie Morrissey; dear brother of James (Sherrie) Morrissey and Mary (Mike) DiGiacomo; cherished uncle of Ryan, Erik (Jackie) and Kelly Rose Morrissey, Anna, Anthony, Daniel and Michael DiGiacomo; great uncle of Sophia Kawabata and Ada Morrissey.
Howie had a distinguished career as a pipefitter for Pipefitters Local Union 597 and had a deep passion for his trade. He was a specialized welder in the earlier part of his career; in his later years, his expertise was in the precise details and layout of the setups required for all the welders. He prided himself on being able to find a solution to any type of mechanical problem, on the job or at home. He was called "MacGyver" by his nephews and nieces due to his ability to problem solve (and because he carried a pocket-size welder in his back pocket!)
Howie, a life-long bachelor, enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, including skiing, fishing and auto racing. Second to participating in his hobbies, his greatest joy was sharing his passions and interests with family and friends.
His love for his family and friends was second to none. Telling a joke and sharing laughs with Howard was always enjoyed and welcomed. Howie's ability to uplift spirits was a constant reminder of how special he was.
He remained close friends with his grammar school classmates and participated in many informal reunions over the years. Howard's friends would enjoy the stories of his youth and reminders of the great times at St. Mary's School. Howie was known as the master prankster among his peers.
We will miss his character, humor, loyalty, and love but will forever cherish our memories.
