Helen G. VanBuskirk, age 72, of Glenwood, IL passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Born May 2, 1952, she was the third child to Maxine Klasey and Francis Boyd VanBuskirk. She grew up in Chicago Heights, IL and was a graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
Helen lived in Quincy, MA for close to two decades working for the New England Bell Phone Company in Boston. There she developed many lifelong, close friendships with people she still kept in contact with up until her untimely death. Helen moved back home to Illinois in in the late 1990s and worked for The Palmer House until retirement.
Helen was an extremely talented quilter and seamstress, creating MANY beautiful works of art over the years. For many years, she was the host of the annual family Easter egg hunt, which she took pride in and found it hilarious that even the adults would "take no prisoners" to find the prizes. Helen was a thoughtful and kind person, always thinking of others first.
Helen is proceeded in death by her parents Maxine and Francis Boyd VanBuskirk. She is survived by her brother, John, and her sisters, Laura and Julia. She was a cherished Aunt to Sara (Chris) Roberts and a beloved Great-Aunt to Emmett and Ava Roberts. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
As Helen was a breast cancer survivor, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the Susan G. Komen – Great Chicago Area or to your local animal shelter.
