Harriet S. Stevens

Harriet S. Stevens was born August 6, 1926 in Bracey, Virginia, the third born of seven children of the union of Nelson and Matdora George.

On September 23, 2023, Harriet quietly slipped away into eternity to be with the Lord.

She was a 1944 graduate of York County High School.

Harriet was united in holy matrimony with Lloyd C. Scott on June 10, 1945. Of this union came one daughter.

Harriet was united in holy matrimony with Albert Stevens on October 3, 1954. Of this union came three sons, and it ended with his passing in October, 1991.

Harriet was a strong woman of faith and expressed that she was born again as a longtime member of the Homewood Full Gospel Church in Homewood, Illinois. Previously, she had been a member of Grace Presbyterian and Emerald Avenue churches in Chicago, where she worshiped and also made lasting friendships. Later she joined New Hope Christian Fellowship in Mundelein, Illinois. She was known by many to offer prayer and encouragement in times of need.

She was a loving wife and mother, who was extremely proud of all her children, an active member of her community, and an exceptional business woman who started a highly successful insurance brokerage after age 50, and served many clients across the Chicagoland area for over four decades.

Harriet could often be found working in her beautiful garden, skillfully making clothing for the family, or singing a hymn. In fact, she was asked to sing at her high school graduation, and sang in a number of church choirs throughout her lifetime.

Left to cherish her memory and legacy is daughter Ina de Veda     Scott-Copeland of Ohio; three sons, Albert V. Stevens of California (Penny); Brian Stevens of Colombia; Timothy N. Stevens of Illinois; brother James T. George (Juliette); sister Annabelle George-Uffen; eight grandchildren, Te Anna Brown (Evan), Amber Stevens, Jamie McVay, Albert Vance Stevens, Jr. (Alycia), Christina Stevens, David Stevens, William Stevens, Monique Stevens, numerous great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
