Gloria Lozano Mendoza

Gloria "Nanay" Mendoza was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, & friend. She left this world on October 21, 2021 in Flossmoor, IL at age 93 surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by working hard, prioritizing family, & living their lives to the fullest.

Gloria was born to Fructuoso and Arsenia Lozano on December 27, 1927. After graduating from high school, she started her business at age 19 selling dried goods at a local market.

She met Diosdado Mendoza "Tatay" while he was studying civil engineering in college. They got married in 1955 and together, they had 6 children: Arsenia, Antonio, Alfredo, Adelaida, Alma, & Aurora.

With a large family of six and a keen business sense, Gloria always found creative ways to save money and earn extra income to send her children to school and to help out her relatives. She learned how to sew so she could dress her children, she raised and sold pigs & chickens on the side, and she even had her kids sell her homemade snacks to their classmates during recess. With hard work, love of God, and prayers her efforts supported her family & future generations to come.

Gloria immigrated to Chicago, IL, USA working as a full-time grandmother. She is survived by 9 grandchildren: Edward, Lauren, Edrian, Alan, Alyssa, Christopher, Aaron, Analyn, and Christian. She loved to cook as much as she loved to feed others with her favorite phrase "kain ka!" (Tagalog for "you eat!"). She fed everyone: family, neighbors, friends, pets, and pretty much anyone who entered our home. She loved to play solitaire and "kas kas" (scratch lottery). Her favorite shows to watch were Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right, and any Chicago sports team. In particular she would root for the Chicago Bulls, Manny Pacquiao, and of course the long deserved world series championship win from her Chicago Cubs in 2016.

In her later years, she had been lovingly cared for through the generous support of family and caregivers: Beth Pascual and Destiny Lambert. The Mendoza family will be forever grateful for the love and prayers given to Gloria by family and friends.
