Gerald H. Morrison of Homewood, IL passed away peacefully in his home on April 11, 2026 at the age of 85. Loving husband of Phyllis and father of Lisa (and son-in-law David Korajczyk), Jerry (and daughter-in-law Larisa) and Toni (and son-in-law John Foyer) and grandfather of Alex (Korajczyk), Jo (Morrison) and Sophia (Foyer), "Jer" was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Emma and his brother Raymond (and sister-in-law Geraldine) and his sister Betty (and brother-in-law Mel Bragg). Jer is also survived by his nieces Janet Challis and Laura DiSantis and nephew Curtis Morrison.
Born in Hammond, IN, Jer attended Wentworth grade school and Thornton Fractional North High School, where he was a wrestler. After marrying Phyllis in 1963, Jer became a meatcutter for National Tea Company. Jer and Phyllis opened a small grocery store in Harvey, IL, and later in Hegewisch, IL and Steger, IL. Jer also worked briefly as a long-haul trucker and a bartender and as a meatcutter for Eagle Food Centers. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, the Chicago White Sox, and listening to Chicago blues. After he suffered a debilitating stroke in 2000, he could no longer drive (a desire of his that never left) but he still enjoyed going to the Chicago Auto Show and wherever he might see vintage cars. Grandpa Jer always had a pocketful of hard candy for his grandchildren and neighbors.
The family plans a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Homewood Fire Department. For further information, please contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.
