George Turner age 93 of Homewood, passed away peacefully at his home on April 8th.
A native of Chicago, George grew up in the Edgebrook neighborhood and attended Taft High School where he met the love of his life Rosemary. They were able to travel the world during George's sales career and were happily married for over 64 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. George C. Turner & Ella Mae Turner, his sister Mary Alice (Rev. Richard) George. Survived by his son Peter Turner, daughter Jennifer (Andrew) Dorn, son James Turner, and son William (Mary) Turner. Cherished Papa (Grandfather) of Christina, Katherine, Julia Dorn and Regina and John Turner. George also had many cherished Nieces and Nephews.
George attended Grinnell College in Iowa and then left to serve in the US Army stateside during the Korean War. He worked for Bryant & Borg Warner where he excelled as a sales engineer and was an accomplished draftsman in the HVAC industry.
George's interests were many - he loved investing and sharing his knowledge of the stock market. He taught Drivers Education in his early years and still loved to drive. He took many driving trips to his son's farm in NW Wisconsin. At 86 he drove to Minnesota for his beloved family reunion. He enjoyed cheering on Chicago sports teams and recently watching the Masters golf tournament. He was able to retire early in his career and enjoy significant time with his Grandchildren. He was a devoted Grandfather (PaPa). Many will remember him as an extremely generous and kind man. George had many wonderful friends and neighbors in Homewood and will be missed by all. A memorial reception will be held at the Tews-Ryan Funeral home 18230 S. Dixie Highway Homewood on Sunday April 24 from 1:00-4:00 pm.
