George Fisher Ewan, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington, Illinois. Born in Harvey, Illinois, George was 70 years old at the time of his passing.
George's unwavering love for his family was a constant source of strength and joy.
All those privileged to know George, would mostly definitely speak of his detailed storytelling, sense of humor, abundant laughter, and endless positivity.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Marianne (Miezio) Ewan; his son, Lawrence (Lilah) Ewan; and his step-children, Jennifer (Andrew Niemeyer) Hoffman , Megan (Michael) Musschoot, and Robert Miezio, Jr. George was adored by his grandchildren, Dylan Hoffman, Justin Ewan, and Olivia Miezio. Through out his life, George carried with him the cherished memory of his beloved daughter, Christina "Chrissy" Ewan, whom he tragically lost in 1985. This profound loss only deepened his compassion and empathy for others.
George dedicated 45 years of honorable service as a firefighter and paramedic, faithfully protecting and serving the communities within MABAS Division 24. His Fire Service career began in 1973 with the East Hazel Crest Fire Department, and he later joined the Hazel Crest Fire Department in 1976. George served with distinction until his retirement in 2018. As an engineer, he proudly wore Badge #17 and earned the respect and admiration of generations of firefighters through his professionalism, reliability, and unwavering commitment to his role.
In 1986, George embarked on a fulfilling career as a paramedic, dedicating over three decades to providing advanced life support and compassionate emergency medical care to those in dire need. His commitment extended beyond the hospital walls as he served the Thornton Fire Department from 2004 to 2017. During his tenure, he worked diligently on the ambulance, served as an engineer, and assumed the crucial role of training officer. Through his dedication to training and mentorship, he played a pivotal role in guiding and shaping countless firefighters and paramedics.
George's legacy will be remembered for his devotion to his brotherhood, his mentorship of younger members, and the profound impact he left on the communities he served. His life was a testament to courage, service, resilience, and love for both his fire service family and his family at home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Resting at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood, IL. 60430 Friday, February 13 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. with a Fire Department walkthrough at 12 noon.
