Gavin "Guy" Muir Scobbie of Homewood, IL passed away May 17th, 2025.
He was born June 30th, 1941 in Chicago, IL to the late Andrew and Martha Scobbie. He is proceeded in death by his parents Andrew and Martha, brother Andy, father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry and Anna Karnick, brother-in-law Frederick Karnick and nephew, Andrew Scobbie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Phyllis Scobbie, son Glenn (Karen) Scobbie, Daughter, Brooke (Adam) Bramson, grandchildren Andersen and Palmer Bramson and a whole pack of grand-pups, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Guy and Phyllis were high school sweethearts at Chicago Vocational School, married in 1963 and moved to Homewood shortly thereafter (1966) from Chicago to start a family. Guy began a dedicated 41-year career at R.R. Donnelley in 1961 as a photo engraver, finishing as Vice-President of Graphics Management, a division he was instrumental in forming. He would continue his accomplished graphic management career at The Form House, before officially retiring, having the pleasure of working with his son.
Guy could often be found in the garage restoring his beloved MG Midget convertible, at local car shows, or tinkering with all things mechanical. He was known as "Mr. Fix-It" to friends, family and neighbors. "You name it, Guy could fix it!" would often be heard.
His legacy will be known as an amazing husband, selfless father and a caring papa; always trying to make life easier for those around him. He sent both of his kids to college, saw them marry the loves of their life, fixed their houses and babysat the grandkids and dogsgm without question. He loved being a papa to Andersen and Palmer, spending time with his extended family and lifelong friends. Guy and Phyllis were true soulmates, spending most of their time together, especially in retirement. He loved getting in the car for a day trip down the Red Arrow highway in Michigan with Phyllis, stopping for dinner before heading home to relax and watch his shows on the couch with the beloved cats. We will feel his loss for the rest of our lives but are so lucky to have had the most amazing life with him. We are left with no regrets because we know how much he loved his family and that was the best gift he could give us all.
There will be a celebration of life luncheon on Saturday, August 9th at Scrementi's Restaurant 3760 Chicago Road Steger, IL from 12-3 pm. Please stop by to have lunch and share stories with us.
In Lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Cancer Support Center at 2028 Elm Road Homewood, IL 60430. Phyllis has been a volunteer there for 25 years and it's an organization near and dear to our family's heart.
